Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis urged fans to “always support the team, not just in four or five fundamental games” amid debate over season ticket sales.

The patron spoke to Sky Sport Italia after an inspection of the newly revamped Stadio San Paolo, which had all its seats replaced by blue and white ones to create a sea wave effect, plus new floodlights, maxi-screen, security system and dressing rooms.

“We will sign the agreement with the council and are just whittling down some details. We’ll meet on Monday and hope to have the paperwork signed by the afternoon,” said De Laurentiis.

“The council and I are engaged in a cultural duel, but it is one made out of respect for the city and the fans. I’d like for Chucky Lozano to score the first goal in the new San Paolo and I’m sure he will if he starts against Sampdoria tomorrow.”

Despite investing with the likes of Lozano, Eljif Elmas, Kostas Manolas and Fernando Llorente, Napoli are still struggling to sell season tickets.

“In the papers I read we’ve not sold many, but it’s a 150 per cent increase from two seasons ago and the campaign is still open. This is all thanks to the 40 per cent discount that I wanted to introduce.

“However, it’s important that the fans learn to always support the team, not just in those four or five fundamental games.”
