Mertens: 'We'll see about the future'

Dries Mertens scored both Napoli goals in the 2-0 victory over Sampdoria, but refused to comment on a new contract. “We’ll see.”

The little Belgian found the net in each half at the Stadio San Paolo, taking his career tally to 112 official goals in a Partenopei jersey.

“It was important after international duty to see how we were doing, especially those who flew back from South America. The first half wasn’t great, but we showed in the second that we’re an excellent team and we’re hungry,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We must face every game the way we did today. We never stop believing and always push for the maximum points.”

This was the best way to build up to the Champions League showdown with Liverpool here on Tuesday evening.

“I don’t know who will play against Liverpool, but if you want to be a big club and successful squad, you need great players on the bench too.”

Will he sign a new contract with Napoli or be tempted by those revived reports of a Chinese move?

“We’ll see, there’s no rush and I am not thinking about anything else.”
