Conte: 'Every game is a battle'

Antonio Conte warned Inter “must fight it out for every result” and should not underestimate the importance of defeating 10-man Udinese.

The Nerazzurri maintained their perfect start to the season with a third win out of three, but only a Stefano Sensi header allowed them to squeeze past Udinese after Rodrigo De Paul’s red card.

“We’ll have to fight it out for every result in every game in every situation,” the Coach told DAZN.

“I complimented my lads, because it was a very difficult match and these three points are important. We deserved them, but must also recognise Udinese did well to stay in the game to the end.

“We should’ve been more clinical and finished it off earlier, but instead we were always just hanging on. I read too much rubbish in the papers, but the truth is nothing is easy and we will never take anything for granted. Every game is a battle and the level of Serie A competition has definitely improved.

“I had warned the players that Udinese would take a very defensive approach and we had to be careful on counter-attacks. We’ve got to start moves from the back and we achieved that against a team that will cause problems for many opponents this season.

“It’s a long road ahead of us, we have a lot of work to do and won’t get caught up by easy enthusiasm. We want to be a tough team.”

Diego Godin had his first start after recovering from injury and it was his cross that Sensi nodded in on the stroke of half-time.

“Stefan de Vrij as the central defender of the three gives more guarantees, as he can read the situations well. Godin brings experience and solidity on the right and showed he’s got a really good pass, too.”

Alexis Sanchez made his debut in the final minutes and would’ve scored if not for a spectacular Juan Musso save from point-blank range.

“Sanchez is very instinctive and we need certain movements. We have work to do, but I am happy with the different options we’ve got now.”
