Stefano Sensi is lighting up Inter with two goals in three Serie A games, but why did he come so close to joining Milan only to back out?
The 24-year-old Italy international is in the form of his life thanks to two goals and two assists in his first three matches in a Nerazzurri jersey.
It means Sensi has already equalled his all-time career personal best Serie A goals tally.
He made the move from Sassuolo on loan for €5m with option to buy for another €20m.
However, before that July 2 transfer, Sensi had been on the verge of joining their arch-rivals Milan instead.
According to Calciomercato.com, the negotiations broke down because Milan were only prepared to take Sensi on a two-season loan without guarantees on a purchase.
Inter dived in and got the deal done with a discount on the original €35m asking price, thanks also to a trade-off with some youth team players going to the Mapei Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Rossoneri picked up Ismael Bennacer from Empoli instead, securing an agreement before he was named Player of the Tournament at the Africa Cup of Nations and his profile sky-rocketed.
