The Rossoblu turned this game around at the Stadio Rigamonti after Daniele Dessena was sent off for simulation.

“Undoubtedly being against 10 men helped us and the red card was decisive in the flow of the match,” Palacio told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had already come out for the second half with great determination, hunger and a strong mentality.”

This was the first Bologna game of the Serie A season without Mihajlovic on the touchline, as he has just started the second course of chemotherapy and watched on from the leukaemia clinic.

He kept in contact with his staff, though, and Palacio reveals he also communicated directly with the players.

“Mihajlovic was furious at half-time and he passed that message on to us, so we tried to use that mentality when we got back out there. It’s thanks to his mentality that we play like this.”

Bologna are still unbeaten this season with seven points after three games against Verona, SPAL and Brescia.

“We had wanted nine points,” mused Palacio.
