Simone Inzaghi admits Lazio “must learn from our mistakes” after throwing away a lead to lose 2-1 at SPAL. “It’s our own fault.”

The Aquile had seemed to be in control after Ciro Immobile’s penalty and barely ran any risks for an hour, but seemed to take their foot off the gas too early and allowed the comeback.

“It’s a bad defeat and we weren’t the usual Lazio in the second half,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had done really well in the first half, taking the lead, hitting the woodwork and creating many scoring opportunities. After the break, we lost our organisation and when that happens, we inevitably pay the price.

“It was partly our fault, because we didn’t kill SPAL off in that first half. We must learn the lessons from this defeat and the disappointment is inevitable.

“A team like ours with the ambitions we’ve set ourselves cannot concede goals like that. We stood off the SPAL players and allowed them the space to finish both goals.

“We know Serie A is tough and we already lost a similar game here last season, so we have to learn from our mistakes. Perhaps we are not yet a great team and haven’t achieved that maturity. We accepted too much praise and got distracted.

“It’s sad, because four points do not reflect our performances in the first three rounds, but again, it’s our own fault.”
