Paolo Maldini has revealed that Milan were interested in signing Hirving Lozano, but their change to a 4-3-1-2 formation saw them look elsewhere.

Lozano ended up joining Napoli towards the end of August, but Maldini claims the former PSV attacker could have been Milan-bound if Marco Giampaolo was not their Coach.

“We looked at him and thought about buying him,” he told TUDN.

“We talked to his agent [Raiola], but in the end there was a problem concerning his position on the field.

“We talked to his agent [Raiola], but in the end there was a problem concerning his position on the field.

“We played with a 4-3-3 last season, the perfect formation for him, but now we play in a different way.

“He was an option for us over the summer, but he made the decision to go to another big club like Napoli, and the factor of working with Ancelotti, who is a maestro, helps him play in his best and natural position.”

The Rossoneri did bring in a forward over the summer – Rafael Leao from last season’s Ligue 1 runners-up Lille.
