Genoa boss Aurelio Andreazzoli felt his side were unlucky to lose 3-1 to Cagliari on Friday but rued their inability to take chances.

Genoa looked to have earned a point when Christian Kouame drew them level late on, but they ended up conceding twice straight after.

“I don't know if we lacked malice,” Andreazzoli told Sky Sport Italia after the game.

“We had to finish off the chances we created, especially in the first half. At this level, you can’t afford to regret the chances you miss.

“You can’t cry over spilled milk and in the first half we poured a litre of it… When you go into a match, you must be clear on things right away.

“Unfortunately, what I say doesn’t always get through to the players and us Coaches don’t need to scream at them.

“The lads read the game well enough, but then some physical difficulties cropped up so we switched to a back four.

“We equalised, but we didn’t have time to celebrate and they scored a nice goal…”

The former Empoli Coach handed a surprise start to Andrea Favilli, whose replacement Antonio Sanabria set up the Grifone’s equaliser.

“Ten minutes earlier, he had the most important chance of the second half. We were thinking about taking him off sooner, but Criscito kept us anxious.

“I’m sorry for the result, I’d have liked my lads to get the satisfaction they deserved. Unfortunately, fate meant that Zapata scored an own goal…”
