Bologna assistant manager Emilio De Leo felt they “deserved more” from a 2-1 defeat to Roma. “Sinisa Mihajlovic was disappointed.”

The Rossoblu had equalised after an Aleksandar Kolarov opener, but Edin Dzeko’s last-gasp header proved decisive.

“We didn’t perform up to our usual standards in the first half and Roma deserve credit for that, but we pushed harder after the break and got back on track,” De Leo told Rai Sport.

“We didn’t perform up to our usual standards in the first half and Roma deserve credit for that, but we pushed harder after the break and got back on track,” De Leo told Rai Sport.

“I think we wasted a match point with Roberto Soriano’s chance and then Roma did well to win it. We lacked the pressing from our strikers on their centre-backs, as that would’ve allowed Takehiro Tomiyasu to be more aggressive in his marking on Kolarov.”

Coach Mihajlovic was watching from his hospital bed, where he is undergoing chemotherapy treatment for leukaemia.

“I heard from Mihajlovic, he was disappointed. If we want to make the step up to the next level, we can’t rest on our laurels. Clearly we made a mistake in the final chance. The Coach was not entirely satisfied and we passed that message on to the team.”
