De Zerbi: 'Defrel a revelation'

Sassuolo Coach Roberto De Zerbi targets victory in Parma, while admitting Gregoire Defrel is “a revelation” and Domenico Berardi “among Italy’s top five talents.”

It kicks off on Wednesday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT), click here for a match preview.

The Neroverdi have won both home games comfortably and lost both away, so will be on their toes for this trip to the Tardini.

“It’s an important match because we want to start getting points on our travels, but it’s not too surprising considering the defeats were to Torino and Roma, two teams who are on paper stronger than we are,” said De Zerbi in his Press conference.

“We don’t play to score lots of goals and concede just as many, that’s not really the plan, and we are working to concede fewer goals.

“There will be some squad rotation, because many players are not capable of playing three games in seven days and we don’t want to create any muscular problems, as that could mean losing players for three to four weeks.”

Gregoire Defrel and Jeremie Boga have been taking it in turns to complete the trident attack with Domenico Berardi and Francesco Caputo.

“I’ll be honest, I didn’t think Defrel was that good, but he has really been a revelation for me and a fantastic signing for Sassuolo. Boga is useful in all games, because he can play long and short balls.

“Berardi would get a lot more attention if he played for a club other than Sassuolo. I was already happy with him last season, even more so now. The great thing about Berardi is the way he chases the ball down to the last minute.

“It would not be wrong to say Berardi is one of the top five Italian talents playing today.

“I think Sassuolo have improved considerably since last season with six new players. If you compare the results alone, we had one point against Torino, Roma, Sampdoria and SPAL last term, while this time we have six.

“We’ve had good performances all round, except the first half against Roma.”
