Walter Mazzarri maintains Torino “deserved the victory” after turning Milan around 2-1, but refused to look at the Serie A table.

Krzysztof Piatek had opened the scoring from the penalty spot, but Andrea Belotti scored at the 71st and 76th to tip the game on its head.

“We were sluggish in the first half, it happens every now and then on home turf when we’re feeling the pressure. It happened against Lecce too, we just couldn’t move the ball,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“During half-time, I think it’s best the players tell you what happened… I just tried to give them some guarantees, so moved to four at the back and we could be more aggressive on the Milan three upfront.

“We broke through, played a fantastic game and deserved the victory. After the brace, Andrea should’ve killed the game when clear rather than try everything to set up Simone Zaza for a goal. If anything, they try to help each other too much.

“We were exhausted, collapsing with cramp and Milan nearly snatched the equaliser at the end. That’s what happens when you don’t take your chances.

“Simone Verdi needed to get his fitness levels back, as he hadn’t played a full game for a long time, including pre-seasons. People act as if I somehow have fun leaving players out, but I see them in training and know everything about their condition.”

Torino are joint fourth with Napoli and Cagliari on nine points.

“You must never look at the table. That’s what we did last season when we had an extraordinary second half to the season. Serie A is like the Giro d’Italia for us, we take it one stage at a time and then see what the results are at the end.”
