Mario Mandzukic has officially terminated negotiations with Qatari club Al-Rayyan and could remain at Juventus until January.

There had already been strong reports the forward was cold on the idea of moving to Qatar, even for a possible €7m per season salary.

Now Al-Rayyan have released a statement confirming they have “suspended negotiations with Mario Mandzukic.”

The Croatian is still determined to make his mark in a major league and is therefore likely to wait until January for a new opportunity.

Manchester United have been mentioned as the main candidates for his signature.

The situation could be sped up if he terminated his contract with Juventus by mutual consent.

However, seeing as the Bianconeri were requesting a €10m transfer fee, that seems improbable.

The 33-year-old has been left off the Champions League squad and hasn’t been called up for Serie A duty in several weeks either.

His current deal with Juventus runs to June 2021 and was only extended in April, when Maurizio Sarri was still the Coach.
