Dries Mertens was disappointed after Napoli were made to hang on for a 2-1 victory over Brescia. “We can’t keep suffering like this.”
They had dominated the first half and wasted several chances, but in the final stages were under immense pressure after Mario Balotelli’s header.
“We cannot concede a goal that way and always make it complicated for ourselves. We can’t keep doing that and suffering like this, even if we managed to get the win,” the Belgian told DAZN.
“We have to push forward and not track back, we need to play in the opposition half and not be pinned back into our own. We have to build on the first half performance and do better than the second.”
Mertens did score and it was his 114th goal in a Napoli jersey, just one shy of Diego Armando Maradona’s tally.
“I am also a little disappointed as I wanted to score that Allan assist at the near post and it would’ve been an important goal for me.
“We have strong players and will do great things. We have those who still have another level to go into and we can do well.”
