Dries Mertens feels Napoli failed to get the victory against KRC Genk and didn’t “play our football. It’s a pity.”

The Belgian had provided 72 tickets to friends and family for the game, including his parents, as Genk is only 70km from his hometown.

However, he only came off the bench in the second half and failed to find the net in a 0-0 draw.

However, he only came off the bench in the second half and failed to find the net in a 0-0 draw.

“After beating Liverpool, we really should’ve picked up another three important points here. We only got one and that is a pity,” Mertens told Sky Sport Italia.

“It is always nice for me to come back to Belgium, but I wanted the three points. We also wanted to come here and play our football, but the mood in the dressing room will tell you we didn’t do that.”

Arek Milik wasted several big chances yet again, but Mertens rushed to defend his teammate.

“I’ve already said, Arek is a great player and we just have to maintain our faith in him. He will be important for this team again. He’s proved himself before and will do again.”

Liverpool threw away a 3-0 lead against RB Salzburg, but eventually scraped a 4-3 victory.

This means Napoli are top of the group with four points, followed by Liverpool and RB Salzburg on three, then Genk with one.
