Diego Maradona has sensationally dropped seven of his first-team players as he looks to end Gimnasia La Plata’s miserable run of form.

Maradona was hired by Gimnasia to great fanfare last month, but he has so far been unable to arrest the club’s poor run of form, overseeing three straight defeats.

In a bid to shake things up, The Sun reports the Napoli icon has demoted as many as seven players to the reserves – Jonathan Chacon, Guillermo Enrique, Lucas Miguez, Juan Cataldi, Khalil Caraballo, Eric Ramirez and Lucas Calderon.

The Argentine side face fellow strugglers Godoy Cruz in a battle of the bottom two tomorrow evening.

They have remained a top-flight team since their promotion back to the Superliga in 2013.
