Gennaro Gattuso has reportedly turned down the Sampdoria job after talks with President Massimo Ferrero.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sportitalia and more, Gattuso phoned Ferrero this afternoon to confirm he would not be accepting the role.

He had been offered a two-year contract and carte blanche on the transfer strategy.

It means Samp parted company with Coach Eusebio Di Francesco after just seven games, but have nobody lined up to replace him. They had targeted Stefano Pioli, who took the Milan job today instead, replacing ex-Samp boss Marco Giampaolo.

Former midfielder and assistant manager Angelo Palombo is currently in charge of training.

Giampaolo cannot return to Sampdoria, because under Serie A rules a Coach is only allowed to work for one club in a single season.
