Inter have been handed a boost in their reported pursuit of Ivan Rakitic as the Barcelona midfielder warns “I need to play.”
Rakitic has been an integral part of Barca’s first team since moving from Sevilla in 2014, playing more than 50 games in each of the last five seasons, winning four La Liga titles and a Champions League.
However, the arrival of Frenkie de Jong and Arthur Melo’s emergence have contributed to the Croat seeing just 186 minutes of club action this season.
“I don’t know what the future holds right now,” he told reporters.
“I’m experiencing a difficult situation because I want to play and not just be part of the team.
“I’ll do everything possible to change things in the next few games. I still have two years left on my contract and there’s no better place than Barcelona, the best club in the world, but I need to play.
“I’ve talked to people at the club. Everyone knows I had other options, it’s no secret.
“I want the best for Barcelona and I also want to fight to make sure I’m ready when the team need me.
“However, if I see that things don’t change, I’ll talk to the club.”
In the meantime, Tuttosport claims Inter are ready to go back in for the 31-year-old this January, taking advantage of his diminished role at Camp Nou.
