Sampdoria will hold more talks with former Roma boss Claudio Ranieri later, despite fans calling for Beppe Iachini’s return.

Ranieri has come forward as a candidate after Gennaro Gattuso turned down Samp’s offer of employment.

Now, Sky Sport Italia is reporting the 67-year-old spoke to President Massimo Ferrero on Thursday morning and that the pair will meet this afternoon.

However, supporters of the Blucerchiati seem to prefer Iachini after he won promotion to Serie A with them during the 2011-12 campaign.

“It’s not up to us to intervene on these matters,” Emanuele Vassallo, President of fan club Federclubs, told ANSA.

“However, there’s a human connection with Iachini after our promotion back to Serie A together, as is his knowledge of Sampdoria.”

Samp have also shortlisted Luigi Di Biagio and Gianni De Biasi, both of whom are similarly unattached.
