Sampdoria decided to appoint Claudio Ranieri after first asking Francesco Totti and Antonio Cassano for advice, it’s reported.
The details of the contract have been whittled down and it is widely expected he will be announced today, with his first training session on Tuesday.
According to Il Secolo XIX newspaper, President Massimo Ferrero was unsure of taking on the former Roma, Fulham, Nantes and Leicester City manager.
He called up ex-Giallorossi players Totti and Cassano to ask for advice, receiving positive feedback on Ranieri’s approach to football.
Curiously, Ranieri’s debut will be against his beloved hometown club Roma on October 20 – his 68th birthday.
