After Mario Mandzukic, it’s now reported Manchester United are targeting Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek in January too.

The story seems to have started in the Daily Telegraph and is spreading rapidly in both Italy and England.

Poland international Piatek is only 24 years old and made an astonishing start to life in Serie A with Genoa, scoring 19 goals in 21 games between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

It earned him a €35m move to Milan after just six months and the scoring streak did continue to a degree, finding the net 11 times in 21 matches.

However, this season he has struggled in front of goal, converting two penalties in seven Serie A games and missing some gilt-edged chances.

The main issue seems to be his role as a pure finisher, whereas Coach Marco Giampaolo wanted a forward who worked more with the team in the build-up play.

Giampaolo was fired after just seven games and Stefano Pioli brought in as his replacement, but it is possible Milan will want to cash in on Piatek in January for €40-50m and make Rafael Leao their first choice centre-forward.

Manchester United are looking increasingly to Serie A for reinforcements, as they are already reported to have a deal in place with Mandzukic, even though Juventus want €10m to sell the Croatia international.
