Matteo Politano has admitted that Inter’s style of play under Antonio Conte “makes my characteristics stand out less.”

Politano was a regular performer out wide in Luciano Spalletti’s 4-3-3 formation for Inter last season, but Conte has since installed a 3-5-2 with wingbacks and two strikers – neither position being a natural fit for the 26-year-old.

“Results are on our side: we must continue on this path,” he told DAZN.

“Compared to last season, where I always played as a starter, I’ve started less from the outset, but the new system makes my characteristics stand out less.

“I must make sure I’m ready for when the Coach calls me. Conte’s good at making everyone feel important and at the same level: it depends on us if we play.

“I have a good relationship with him, he’s direct and he says things as it is.”

The former Sassuolo winger then commented on Alexis Sanchez’s three-month injury layoff.

“It’s disappointing when you lose an important teammate for months and it can weigh on you in a numerical sense.

“But we have some good lads playing in the Primavera squad. We’re calm.”
