The Aquile were dominated completely in the first half and trailing 3-0, but a pair of Ciro Immobile penalties and Joaquin Correa thunderbolt secured a last-gasp draw.

“We’ll take the reaction and the comeback, but the first half was unacceptable. We got everything wrong and deserved to be 3-0 down,” Immobile told Sky Sport Italia.

“We knew Atalanta were tough, we shouldn’t have taken that attitude and we knew it was going wrong. There was silence at half-time, we just looked each other in the eyes and realised we were putting in a pitiful display.

“We came back out for the second half with a different attitude and the Coach did well not to shout at us, because he knew there was no need. We saw what was going on and knew what we had to do to make up for it.

“You can have tactics, technique, spend 10 years on the field training, but without that determination, you’ll get nothing. I don’t know why we didn’t play like that in the first half too, but considering we came back from 3-0 down, it felt like a win.

“I am losing 10 years of my life to the stress of last-minute penalties! After that second half, it didn’t seem right that we emerge empty-handed, so I had to get it in.”
