“We didn’t deserve to go behind in the first half, but there was little we could do on that world class goal from Nainggolan,” Semplici told DAZN.

“We knew that Cagliari had a lot of quality and we caused them problems with Jasmin Kurtic forcing a tough save. A light went out after the second goal and we risked losing by a heavier scoreline at that stage.

“This must help us to mature, because we’d done so well for an hour and were naïve. It’s disappointing, as we could’ve brought home important points.

“It is irritating that once again we are empty-handed away from home.”
