Roma apologise for racist abuse

Roma have apologised to Ronaldo Vieira and pledged to “identify and ban any individuals found guilty of racially abusing” the Sampdoria midfielder.

The chants were heard during today’s 0-0 draw at Marassi.

The England Under-21 international was asked about the incidents afterwards by RAI Sport.

“I heard them, but I’d rather not talk about it.”

Roma released a statement in several languages assuring they would take action.

“AS Roma would like to apologise to Ronaldo Vieira for the racist boos he was subjected to.

“Roma does not tolerate racism of any kind and the club will support the authorities in identifying and subsequently banning any individuals found guilty of racially abusing the midfielder.”

Earlier this month, Roma hit the headlines by banning one of their supporters who had racially abused Juan Jesus on Instagram, also reporting him to police.
