Now, Tuttomercatoweb reports talks are taking place in Milan between Motta and Genoa owner Enrico Preziosi.

The summit has been made possible by the ex-Inter man currently studying at the Coverciano centre of excellence, which is also in northern Italy.

With that in mind, the 37-year-old could agree a deal to become the Rossoblu’s new boss as early as today.

However, he would need to be assisted by someone with a licence to coach in Serie A – seemingly Genoa U17 boss Roberto Murgita at this stage.

The club have turned to the Italo-Brazilian, who last coached Paris Saint-Germain’s Under-19 team, after Gennaro Gattuso rejected them.

Massimo Carrera and, to a lesser extent, Francesco Guidolin are also being considered.
