Fiorentina have leapt to the defence of Federico Chiesa after the winger was booked for diving against Brescia.

Chiesa was shown a yellow card for perceived simulation in the Brescia box during last night’s 0-0 draw and was substituted moments later, provoking an angry reaction from the Fiorentina youngster.

It is the latest in a growing list of incidents where the Italy international has been accused of diving, but sporting director Daniele Prade suggested the referee had acted out of line himself.

“I hope prejudice had nothing to do with it,” Prade said after the game.

“The booking wasn’t due to simulation because Federico didn’t dive.”

Despite the result, the Viola have now gone six Serie A games without defeat.
