Josip Ilicic felt Atalanta “did well in the first half” against Manchester City and the 5-1 result was harsh. “We have to look at the positives.”
The Orobici had taken the lead at the Etihad, but capitulated to a Sergio Aguero brace and second half Raheem Sterling hat-trick.
“I think we had done well in the first half against an extremely strong opponent with great quality,” Ilicic told Mediaset.
“They made the most of every scoring opportunity. We have to look at the positives, because just coming to stadiums like this is a wonderful experience.
“The Champions League is a very different tournament that we are not accustomed to.”
When Atalanta took the lead with a penalty, it was Ruslan Malinovskyi who stepped up and not Ilicic.
“The Coach decided on the order of the penalty takers.”
