“I am grateful to the players, but even that was not enough. Some were struggling for match fitness, such as Barinov, Howedes and Krychowiak, so towards the end we were struggling and had nobody to come off the bench.

Juventus kept the pressing on constantly and suppressed all our attempts at a counter-attack. Cristiano Ronaldo told me afterwards that it was difficult and I replied we did everything possible.

“For a club like ours, just playing games like this is important. It doesn’t happen every day.”
