Director Beppe Marotta has the utmost respect for Borussia Dortmund and their growth strategy, but insists Inter don’t miss Mauro Icardi.

“The approach remains the same, but at this level so much depends on the quality of the opponent,” the director told Sky Sport Italia.
“Borussia Dortmund are tough, they have a lot of quality and we want to make the most of home advantage in this wonderful atmosphere, but ultimately the pitch gives its verdict.
“Borussia have had a winning approach for years to transfer strategies and making the most of their youth academy, so they amaze every year, not just in the Premier League, but also in Europe.
“Thanks to Antonio Conte’s work, the team is improving week by week. Matches last 90 minutes, so we might have some struggles towards the end, but we are confident for the present and future of this club.
“There are five Italians on the bench this evening and that shows our strategy to build on an Italian core and make the most of local talent.
“We know the Champions League is a big tournament, where even if you are up against clubs with less prestige than you, they bring something new to the table. We play to win, but have to take into account the opposition too.”
Mauro Icardi keeps scoring with Paris Saint-Germain and was on target again last night, so Inter hope the French side will take up their option to buy at the end of the season.
“We had no doubts on Icardi’s qualities, we simply made a choice. That doesn’t underestimate his capabilities, but was part of a strategy we explained many times,” added Marotta.
“He is still a player on our books, we are fond of him, but we are doing very well with the forwards at our disposal this season and are the second-highest scorers in Serie A.”
