Franck Ribery says he is “really sorry” for shoving assistant referee Matteo Passeri after Fiorentina’s controversial 2-1 loss to Lazio last night.
The winger uploaded a message on his Twitter account, which saw him apologise for how he reacted in the heat of the moment seconds after the final whistle on Sunday.
“I’m really sorry for last night. I apologise to my teammates, the Coach and the fans. I also apologise to Mr [Matteo] Passeri because at the end of the match I was very agitated and sad, and I hope he can understand my mood,” it read.
“I always want to stay on the pitch and help my teammates because I came all the way to Florence for this city and this club, and I think Fiorentina should get more attention, the same attention given to the other clubs, for the great work we’re doing every day.
Lega Serie A confirmed the Frenchman was shown a red card for his actions, so he could be banned for several games as a result.
