Former Juventus boss Max Allegri has been nominated for Best Coach of the Year in the Globe Soccer Awards, while Lazio’s Igli Tare is nominated as Best Director.
In a surprise twist, the former Bianconeri boss was one of the five short-listed for the trophy, but not Premier League winner Pep Guardiola.
This is despite Allegri essentially being dismissed before his contract was up, making way for Maurizio Sarri.
Allegri is up against Liverpool manager and Champions League winner Jurgen Klopp and Erik ten Hag of Ajax (who knocked Juve out of the Champions League quarter-finals).
Also included are Djamel Belmadi, who won the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria, and Portugal’s Fernando Santos, who led his country to the first ever Nations League trophy.
Meanwhile, Lazio chief Igli Tare is nominated as Best Sporting Director following his work at the Stadio Olimpico.
He is up against Atletico Madrid’s Italian sporting director Andrea Berta, Liverpool’s Michael Edwards, Eric Abidal of Barcelona and Ajax’s Marc Overmars.
