Cagliari continue to impress at the Sardegna Arena and picked up another three points from the meeting with Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Bologna last night. Giovanni Simeone’s neat dink over the goalkeeper made sure they were not to be caught by a reluctant away side fighting till the very end.

“He is a complete forward,” the former defender said about the summer recruit. “He’s generous and understands both phases of the game. He’s always got one eye on the goal and will always put himself in the best positions to finish the attack.

“But he still needs to improve on his product, his decisions on the ball. But the margins for improvement are still there.”

Cagliari are seventh in Serie A after the midweek fixtures and are going to Bergamo for a tough battle against a high-flying Atalanta side next. Maran feels the opponents will have figured out what’s to expect when they are coming to town.

“It’s not a surprise anymore. The table is surprising, but we won’t leave any stones unturned,” added the 56-year-old. “We have to keep going, everything comes down to our own work. The lads are responding in a great manner.

“Even today, against a difficult Bologna side that proved to give us a lot of trouble. We are working on our own development and the mentality of the lads is admirable.”
