The tactician was sent off during Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Atalanta at the Stadio San Paolo for protesting the equaliser and penalty incident leading up to it at the other end.

The tactician was sent off during Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Atalanta at the Stadio San Paolo for protesting the equaliser and penalty incident leading up to it at the other end.

He had argued that he was trying to help the referee by calming his furious players down, but was then shown a red card.

Ancelotti complained afterwards that he felt “attacked” by the officials and lodged a last-minute appeal at the CONI headquarters in Rome this morning against the one-match ban.

However, the appeal was rejected, so his son and assistant manager Davide Ancelotti will be on the bench today.
