“We are interested in winning, in giving the best of our capabilities and keeping the bar high,” the director told Sky Sport Italia.

“As I have said many times, we are at the start of a new era, it is one of gradual growth and we want to continue that work at a steady pace.”

Marotta was asked about reports Barcelona and Manchester United are ready to activate Lautaro Martinez’s €111m release clause, although it’s only valid from July 1-15.

With that in mind, it’s also been claimed Inter are in negotiations to give him a new contract removing the clause.

“This is all media talk. Our players are happy to be with us and a player must express its desire to leave if he wants to go. We don’t tend to sell important players, Inter are a very important club.

“Of course, part of this job is to deal with situations as they present themselves.”
