“I looked at a few of Atalanta’s statistics and they are extraordinary. The third game in a week, this is the worst possible fixture we could have right now,” said Maran in his press conference.

“Having said that, we have always replied to big tests as a team and want to continue that way. Every game is a test of Cagliari’s ambitions, but this one more than most.

“Being in a position to prepare for this game in joint fifth place is certainly very positive, but we perform higher than our usual level to get anything from Bergamo.

“As the performances improved, so did our confidence and with that the results. We’re still getting to know each other and what we can achieve as a team.”

Maran confirmed he hasn’t yet decided his line-up, but Luca Ceppitelli and Valter Birsa are not making the journey to the Gewiss Stadium.

“Luca Cigarini and Nahitan Nandez trained normally this morning, so I need to evaluate a few things.”
