It was pointed out that the last time Lazio won a Serie A match away to Milan was in 1989 with a Maldini own goal.

“We hope that it remains their last victory for a while longer,” smiled director Maldini on Sky Sport Italia.

“It is an important game, because we are in a delicate position in the table and the only way to improve that is to get positive results. This game is important, but not decisive.

“The teams ahead of us are moving forward, albeit fairly inconsistently, but they are still getting away. We cannot lose touch with Napoli, Roma and Atalanta.

“Thursday’s victory against SPAL did us good and when we see our position in the standings change so quickly, it changes your evaluation of matches too.”

However, a win here would put Lazio in joint fourth with Atalanta and Cagliari, so they are not lacking motivation either.

“Here’s hoping Ciro Immobile won’t get his 100th goal for Lazio today and waits until next week,” added Maldini.

“The main strength of Immobile is that he can sprint to the last minute, he does it constantly, so there is no rest for the defenders, they have to watch him non-stop.”
