Lorenzo Insigne confessed Napoli are “going through a rough period, but we can’t think negative” after a 1-1 draw with RB Salzburg.

A victory this evening would’ve mathematically secured their place in the Champions League Round of 16, but Hirving Lozano had to cancel out an Erling Haaland penalty.

“It’s a rough period for us at the moment, but we’ve got to keep our heads up and continue to work,” the captain told Sky Sport Italia.

“We realise that we cannot have one good game followed by one below par. We are too inconsistent, but tonight we played well and tried everything possible, but couldn’t score. It was a bit like the Atalanta game.

“We need to be more determined, keep playing good football and hopefully luck will turn our way eventually. I saw a good response tonight from the squad, including those on the bench and in the stands. The coach ensures we are united and tries not to put too much pressure on us.

“We know it’s not a good period, but if we all think negative and behave as if the ball doesn’t want to go in, it’ll spread. The coach is positive and we have to share his attitude.”

They need to win one of the final two games to qualify, with a trip to Anfield and welcoming Genk at the Stadio San Paolo.
