“I’m only thinking about qualifying for the Champions League,” Immobile told Sport Mediaset. “We deserve to be among the best.”

Immobile recently celebrated his 100th goal for the Aquile, achieved after just 147 appearances.

Gonzalo Higuain set the record for most goals in a single Serie A season when he bagged 36 in the 15-16 campaign, so is surpassing that his next target?

“You live in the moment and this is one of those where everything is going well. I hope it will continue like this.

“Higuain’s record with 36 goals is a number of great importance. You work hard, and when the records arrive, you’ll always be happy.

“Everything that’s going well for me now are thanks to me and my teammates.

“Lazio are a solid team and we’ve got what it takes to do well. I’m happy to have reached this milestone in this jersey.

“I want to continue to work hard with this group.”

The 29-year-old is also hoping his numbers will help him lock down a place in Roberto Mancini’s Italy squad ahead of Euro 2020, although he has ex-Torino teammate Andrea Belotti for competition.

“It’s nice, because there’s not only competition up front. There also is in other positions.

“The credit belongs to Mancini as it wasn’t easy to gather the players after the disappointment of the World Cup.”

Lazio face Celtic in the Europa League this evening, needing a win to keep their hopes of progression alive.
