Ismael Bennacer insists Milan can beat Juventus with the “right spirit” on Sunday and reveals how Stefano Pioli has been “closer” to the squad.

Milan are 11th in Serie A and have won just once since Pioli replaced Marco Giampaolo as coach.

This weekend they face the League leaders, and Bennacer wants to make a statement.

“We are Milan, not Lecce,” warned the midfielder.

“Juventus and Lecce drew, so we can win. We just need to have the right spirit.”

The Algeria international has been involved in seven matches so far this season, so how has he found them?

“In football, the small details are very important. If you make a mistake, so will your teammate, and so on.

“Maybe we have, in general, been lacking concentration. But we know and we are sad about it.

“Milan is a club with a great history and we need to pull through, most of all for our supporters.

“At the moment it’s hard, but our job is to work hard and look forward.

“We want to finish as high as we can, as close to the top as possible.”

Despite their lack of results under the ex-Fiorentina and Lazio boss, Bennacer has noticed a marked improvement.

“Compared to Giampaolo, he’s more aggressive. He’s closer to us, he always talks to us.

“He also spoke to me eye to eye, he told me what he expects from me.

“He told me that I needed to spend more time on the ball, not always go vertical and control the tempo of the match in a better way.”
