The Napoli training session has concluded, with Lorenzo Insigne, Allan and Jose Callejon singled out for particular abuse from angry fans, including veiled threats.

The situation has exploded over the last few days, as the club ordered a training retreat in the build-up to the Champions League match with RB Salzburg and Saturday’s Serie A game with Genoa.

However, the players rebelled and refused to go back to the hotel after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at the Stadio San Paolo.

Today, a training session was closed to the media, but open to season ticket holders, and it turned into an opportunity for fans to hurl insults at the squad, calling them among other things ‘mercenaries.’

Reports from the scene suggest the players targeted specifically for abuse include captain Insigne, midfielder Allan – who openly pushed to join Paris Saint-Germain last season – and veteran Callejon.

The only one who earned applause from the crowd was Dries Mertens, who went over and gestured an apology to the supporters.

Some chants went even further, as Napoli ultras were filmed shouting: “If you don’t win, we’ll destroy you.”
