Sampdoria boss Claudio Ranieri says he is happy to be working with Gaston Ramirez. "I wanted him when I was at Leicester City."
Ramirez has only played four times for Samp this season, mostly coming on as a substitute during games, but Ranieri nonetheless rates the Uruguay midfielder highly.
"I think the world of Gaston, I wanted him when I was at Leicester. I'm sure he'll give us a big hand," he said at a Press conference.
The 68-year-old then spoke of his admiration for Saturday's opponents Atalanta, who recorded their first-ever Champions League point against Manchester City midweek.
"Our next opponents are very strong. Ilicic is a champion, as is Muriel, but in general [Gian Piero] Gasperini's squad has been built very well and has played together for years. It'll take a good performance to beat them."
Ranieri then gave an update on other members of his squad, including .
"Gabbiadini's fine. Depaoli's a lad who likes to run, he knows how to push on and I like him. [Fabio] Quagliarella's looked good in recent days."
"I liked Caprari [against SPAL]. He left a bitter taste in my mouth during the Sassuolo game, but against SPAL he came on in the right way and was decisive.
"I want to see players who give everything until the end of the game."
Indeed, Gianluca Caprari's injury-time winner at SPAL lifted the Blucerchiati off the bottom of the Serie A table.
"The lads are regaining confidence but we must continue in this way, so as not to throw away our good work."
