Gotti: 'Udinese will get a new coach'

Udinese won on his debut, but caretaker manager Luca Gotti continues to assure “there will be a different coach” in charge after the SPAL game.

It kicks off at 14.00 GMT, click here for a match preview.

Igor Tudor was fired and assistant Gotti given the reins while the club tries to find a suitable long-term replacement, but Gotti made a sensational debut, winning 3-1 away to Genoa.

“I have already clarified my position and expect that there will be a different coach on the Udinese bench when we face Sampdoria after the break for international duty,” said Gotti in a press conference.

“I don’t know the schedule that the club has in mind, but I can only speak about my position. Good sense indicates the break would give any newcomer enough time to settle in and see what he’s dealing with.

“As for right now, the attitude is more important than the tactics or even our position in the table right now. The priority is to create a strong mental approach that everyone can share.

“There has been a turnaround in our fortunes, but it wasn’t long ago it was all doom and gloom, so let’s not kid ourselves that everything has been resolved.”

This afternoon is a pure relegation dogfight, as Udinese take on bottom of the table SPAL.

“I expect it to be a tough, physical, masculine game of football, where the details and individual incidents make the difference.”
