Italy have called up Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali to the senior squad after Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti pulled out through injury, reports ANSA.

Tonali had been called up to the Italy U-21 squad to face Iceland and Armenia next week, but has now been pushed to the first team for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Armenia instead.

PSG star Verratti picked up a knock to his calf yesterday in the 2-1 win over Brest in Ligue 1 and has had to pull out of the squad. This follows Sassuolo's Domenico Berardi also withdrawing after his injury during Friday's win over Bologna.

Tonali, who made his debut for the Azzurri last month, has only played for the U-21s five times, and had been expected to start for Paolo Nicolato's team.

The Brescia man will now be replaced by Chievo's Salvatore Esposito in the Azzurrini squad.
