SPAL boss Leonardo Semplici says striker Andrea Petagna should stay another year at the Ferrara-based club before seeking a move, amid Inter speculation.

Inter have been recently linked with the former Milan and Atalanta striker, and Semplici believes another year with SPAL would be the best option for his career.

"Inter's interest is pleasing. It means that the player is doing great things. I believe that Andrea should stay another year here in Ferrara, confirming the good things he did last season. Then he can take off for a bigger club," Semplici told Sky Sport Italia.

SPAL sit second from bottom in Serie A, having won just twice in 12 games, but Semplici believes that it's up to him and the players to get themselves out of the relegation zone.

"The table doesn't make for reassuring reading and the games against Sampdoria and Udinese didn't go as we would've liked. We threw away points at the end of both games, and we could've been higher in the table. We need to improve. The club did well on the transfer market [last summer], now it's up to us."

SPAL play Genoa at home after the international break.
