Dzeko had opened the scoring for Bosnia in Turin back in June, but the Nazionale fought back for a 2-1 victory.

“We hope to repeat that performance and get an even better result, because it counts for little when you lose,” the Roma striker told Rai Sport.

Finland secured second spot in this group behind Italy, so Bosnia’s only hope now is to get through the Nations League play-offs.

“We’ve got very few points and unfortunately have been unable to qualify for the Euros this way, but we have the squad to get there and we’ll do everything we can to achieve it via the Nations League.

“There are other younger players ready to come through, but I am the captain and want to set the example for all those young players coming through. I hope to give them even more hunger to continue, because Dzeko will be there for another two or three years and no more.

“I love playing for my country. We hope to repeat the first half in Turin and then, why not try to beat Italy?”

Italy boss Roberto Mancini of course won the Premier League with Dzeko at Manchester City.

“I know Mancini very well, we have a good rapport and he is the one who wanted me at Manchester City. I am very grateful to him.

“Of course, I always wanted to play and he didn’t always use me from the start, but City had so many great forwards and I realised we couldn’t all play at once.”
