Atalanta legend Glenn Stromberg is “very proud” of La Dea for their Serie A and Champions League exploits. “They go out and play everywhere.”
The Swede is now 59 and visited Bergamo to receive an award for his career, which saw him wear the Orobici jersey from 1984-92.
“I am very proud of Atalanta,” Stromberg told news agency ANSA.
“Even the big clubs are paying attention to them. They go out and play everywhere, focusing on positive football, without just trying to sit back and defend.
“The fact they drew 1-1 at San Siro with Manchester City, one of the top five teams in the world, gives real confidence.”
However, their expansive style has left them woefully open to counter-attacks and they lost the first three Champions League group games.
“Looking at the situation realistically, I can’t say that I believe Atalanta will get through to the next stage of the Champions League.
“The next match will tell us more, but it wouldn’t be bad to go into the Europa League by finishing third in the group.”
