Eljif Elmas insists Napoli “can still win the Scudetto this season, as we’re only at the start. Juventus, Inter, Napoli and Roma are in the running.”
The midfielder spoke while on international duty with Macedonia and is seemingly unconcerned by the poor start to this Serie A campaign.
After 12 rounds, the Partenopei sit in seventh place, already 13 points off leaders Juve.
“Napoli can still win the Scudetto this season, as we’re only at the start,” Elmas told reporters.
“Juve are still in pole position and have the strongest squad, but just as a Scudetto can be won, it can also be lost. There are many teams in the running, such as Inter, Napoli and Roma, so it’ll be uncertain at the top to the very end.”
Napoli have another tough test coming up next weekend, as they face struggling Milan.
“It’ll be difficult, but we will do everything we can to earn three points. I am happy to be playing in Italy and Napoli are one of the best sides in Serie A.”
However, Napoli then released a statement warning Elmas will be fined after speaking about his club during a media blackout, announced following the team's refusal to go into a training retreat.
SSC Napoli can confirm that Eljif Elmas spoke to the press without the club's authorisation during the current media blackout. SSC Napoli therefore reserves the right to take action against the player. Nicola Lombardo, Head of Communications— Official SSC Napoli (@sscnapoli) November 16, 2019
