The Azzurrini leapfrogged Iceland into second place in their European Under-21 Championship qualifying group and have a game in hand too.

“I must compliment the lads, because some really hadn’t played much this season and were rusty,” the CT told Rai Sport.

“We started out a little nervous and ran some risks, but our goalkeeper did well. As time went on, we did what we had planned and played our game.”

Riccardo Sottil opened the scoring, before Cutrone’s late brace on two Gianluca Scamacca assists.

“Cutrone deserved this, we all did in the second half, which was played at a good level. Our possession ball tired them out and it’s another step forward.”
