Genoa forward Christian Kouame went under the knife after an anterior cruciate ligament injury and will be out for circa six months.
He was on international duty with the Ivory Coast at the Under-23 African Cup of Nations when he tore the ACL in his left knee.
The operation was performed at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome today and Kouame is expected to be out of action for six months.
That effectively means his season is already over, as he might at best be able to make a cameo appearance in the final game in May.
Meanwhile, Genoa teammate Stefano Sturaro returned to training and featured in a friendly for the first time since his ACL surgery in May.
