Referees chief Marcello Nicchi has pledged to create a point of contact, which allows the most controversial VAR calls in Serie A to be “reported daily”.

Coaches, captains and referees met yesterday to discuss the use of VAR in the Italian top flight, and Nicchi assured there would be more transparency about the decisions being made.

“We want to quickly set up tools so there can be daily and weekly reports,” the AIA President said after the summit.

“Every week, we will establish something where we explain why something happened.

“With the VAR control room, we will open a point of contact so the critical incidents on Sundays can be communicated immediately.

Nicchi added there could be scope for referees to explain themselves too.

“If the atmosphere becomes calm, I see no reason why referees can’t talk after matches either.

“Once we have the technology at our disposal, we can talk about what happened a bit earlier.

“We still need to evaluate things. There are also some incidents where the refereeing committee must review and discuss whether a situation has been judged in the right or wrong way.

“We are working on VAR at a great pace in Coverciano.”
